creamy avocados

3 Jul

Just because we couldn’t wait for the avocados in our yard to ripen up fast, it’s always a must to include this pear-shaped fruit in my market list. Or else, the kids would fret. I know, many kids or even adults shun the bitter (or no taste) taste of avocados. Not in my household. I am lucky my kids eat fruits and veggies (though the little miss is a less too picky). I guess, they must have seen in us (me and hubs) how we loved to eat fruits especially those what we harvest in our yard…we’re lucky to have lived in a farm where variety of tropical fruits abound.

And, since mangoes are out and some new rainy season fruits were coming in, the kids are happier. It’s avocado time once again..

that's P25/kilo in the market

Avocado’s calories from fat contains monounsaturated fat which is good for hubby to help increase his HDL (good cholesterol) and decreases his LDL (bad cholesterol). I prefer avocado (as in other high fiber fruit), too, to help me with my bouts against constipation.

This little miss enjoyed her avocado mixed with powdered milk and a little sugar. I tell you, she’s excited whenever she sees the fruit in my basket^_^. I’m not complaining even if the powdered milk’s canister emptied too fast. We tried using condensed milk one time, the kids said condensed milk lacked the creaminess powdered milk has. Let the kids be judge!

healthy choices?

2 May

Er, pardon me. But, I am just as stubborn as other people. Eating to the max! Without minding what risk the foods may pose to my health. My reason? I am healthy as a bull!

Can we forever be lax on our eating habits?

Sometimes, I do. Because of hubbys’ early manifestation of hypertension due to higher levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in his blood chemistry. Plus, his alarming sugar levels. What makes me even more “agitatingly angry” is; he won’t ever stopped smoking. He would promised me that he’d stopped. That was EONS ago!. I would always catch him sneaking a stick while he’s in the loo!

I am freaking afraid, because hypertension and diabetes is in his genes. Both his parents were diabetics.

What am I to do?

I am starting to get cautious with the foods/food products that we’re buying. You know how kids loved fried foods. And, hubby should never have any of it. But , who knows when I am not around.

Thus, I have replaced my "generic" cooking oil into a more healthier oil.

I am a little cautious now of the labels. Noting the FAT CONTENTS in every label.

Here's a loaf bread for me and the kids only. Hubby's got a wheat bread ^_^

Take note that it has zero TRANS FAT. YEY! But, don't make that fools us, consumers...look at the SUGAR content at 5g. Hello, DIABETICS, they're not good for you. And also, look at the loaf's SODIUM content...isn't it alarming at 230g? WHEW! Sodium, as we know, spells, SALT!

But here’s my “unhealthy breakfast: 2 pieces of loaf bread, cheese slices which are our favorite.  Does anybody spells processed food here? ^_^. And, a cup of my favorite coffee…with lots of cream. YAY!
